Manhattan, NY. – A rental truck from The Home Depot has plowed into a crowd of civilians on a bike path in downtown Manhattan last Tuesday afternoon, leaving eight dead, six dead at the scene and two dead after being transported to the hospital. Dozens have been injured in the attack as well.
The driver of the truck proceeded to get out and brandish two fake guns, one pellet gun and one paintball gun. The suspect was shot by police and is alive and in custody. Witnesses from the scene state that the suspected terrorist, described as a man in his late twenties, shouted “Allahu Ackbar!” while being taken into custody.
The attack took place just outside of the famous Stuyvesant High School, just blocks from the September 11th memorial and World Trade Center, site of the infamous September 11, 2001 terror attacks.
Crowds were sent running as bodies scattered the ground where the truck rammed into the crowd. There were also unsubstantiated reports that the truck contained bombs, which proved to be false after the NYPD bomb squad searched the truck.
President Trump, New York Governor Cuomo, and City Mayor Bill de Blasio have all been briefed on the situation.
The FBI, and NYPD have officially deemed this an “act of terrorism”. This attack mirrors many truck attacks that have taken place across Europe over the last several years in particular in the United Kingdom, France, and Germany.
This is a developing story and we will continue to update.
